Ya Marie’s Story

Meet Ya Marie who recently received her DelAgua stove. She is 75 years old and lives in Patifu-mayawah.

“My daughter does the cooking for the family. The interesting thing about this DelAgua stove is that it cooks fast with no heat disturbing me even though I sit close to it when cooking. It is easy to carry, easy to tend the fire and our cooking is not interrupted by rain since it is portable.”

“Our expenditure on firewood was high when we used the traditional three-stone cooking method. We used to spend 10 Leones ($0.00051) every time we cooked. In a month, we would spend 280 Leones ($0.14).”

“This expenditure affected the family income greatly. Since receiving the DelAgua stove our expenditure has reduced significantly because we now spend 10 Leones ($0.00051) on wood per week, instead of daily. My family now saves 240 Leones ($0.12) per month, and we use the money saved per month to buy more food for the family.”

“Considering my age, I am comfortable cooking with this stove unlike that of the traditional way of cooking we had previously.” – Ya Marie
